The Ione Hunted Preston Castle. Where ghosts and history co-exist

The new season of Ghost Adventures kicks of Friday June 5th at 9 PM E/P on the Travel Channel. The ghost adventurers are back with all new lock-downs in some of the scariest, most notorious haunted locations in the world.

This week’s adventure is on Preston Castle. Zak, Nick and Aaron head to Ione, Calif., for an investigation in a condemned building known as Preston Castle. The castle has a dark history as a former reformatory that housed angry juvenile offenders and abandoned children. It is the sight of an unsolved murder, countless instances of corporal punishment, and the scene of many tragic deaths due to ravaging epidemics. The crew definitely has their hands full in this episode with the aggressive ghosts that are trapped within the confines of Preston Castle.

The former Preston School of Industry, built in the late 1890’s, lies atop a hill and looms over the town of Ione. It was a reform school known locally as Preston Castle.

The Preston Castle is a monstrosity of sandstone Romanesque Revival where once thousands of homeless, incorrigible and violent state “wards” learned trades like farming, carpentry and auto repair until the 1960’s. Merle Haggard and 50’s cowboy star Rory Calhoun once lived here.
