On tonights NBA game between the Cavs and Magic, TNT will broadcast Chris Webber’s interview with former player Rodney Rogers who is now paralyzed from the shoulder down due to a dirt bike accident last November.

“We went riding dirt bikes and going through the trail, I kind of hit a ditch and it flipped me over the handlebars. I thought I had my hands down. But I didn’t. Fell on my head. Broke my neck.”

“I told God that I need to be able to walk and use my hands again because I’ve got a lot of stuff to do.”

Initial reports said Rogers was driving an ATV. He said that when he flipped he wasn’t concerned, at first.

“I had fallen like that plenty of times while riding,” he said. But then, as his friends came to check on him, he told them, “I think I done messed up and broke my neck. I didn’t feel nothing. I couldn’t move my arms, couldn’t move my legs. I knew it wasn’t right.”

Rodney Rogers although financially set, took a job working for Durham, N.C.’s public works department. The health benefits that he secured has helped pay his medical bills since the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement doesn’t cover for catastrophic insurance for retired players. Rogers is dealing with his paralysis in an upbeat manner with the help and support of his fiance Faye Suggs.
