Mike Zimmer, Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator made an emergency call to 911 after arriving home on Thursday night and discovering his 50-year-old wife Vikki Zimmer dead.
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office said that a foul play is not suspected in her death, but officials have not released any further details pending an autopsy. Vikki Zimmer cause of death is still unknown as of the moment.
Mike Brown, the Bengals president said:
“We are stunned and saddened to learn of Vikki’s passing. She was a warm and popular person in the Bengals family, and our immense respect and affection for Mike makes this especially hard. Our hearts go out to Mike and his family.”
Zimmer has been an NFL defensive coordinator for 10-years, joining the Bengals in January 2008. Vikki Zimmer was born in Layton, Utah. She and Mike met during Mike’s coaching tenure at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah in 1981. They were married for 27 years and have three children. Their son Adam Zimmer is an assistant linebackers coach for the Saints.
Defensive coordinator Zimmer made the trip with the Bengals team to Baltimore on Saturday morning and was on hand to coach Sunday’s game against the Ravens. He was accompanied by his father, Bill, son Adam and daughter Corri. His mother and another son remained in Cincinnati.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
