Jessie Logan, Sexting Suicide

Sexting is one of the growing problems of American youth today. Sexting means sexing by text. One particular incident that makes this problem very disturbing and alarming is Jessie Logan’s case.

Jessie Logan is a typical teenager having a normal life with her fellow teenager and her boyfriend. But when she sent nude photos of herself to her high school boyfriend in 2008, life has changed to Jessie. When Jessie and her boyfriend split, he sent Jessie’s photos to their fellow female classmates and hundreds of other students in schools around Tri-State.

She told the news how embarrassed and humiliated she was and how she was being harassed and teased by other students at home, school and when she went out. Jessie broke down crying;

“I still get harassed and stuff,” she said. “I just want to make sure no one else will have to go through this same thing.”

Two months later, Jessie hanged herself. She was 18. Cynthia Logan, Jessie’s mom, tells the horrifying moment when Jessie killed herself.

“And I walked over into her room and saw her hanging. Her cell phone was in the middle of the floor.”

Since Jessie’s death, authorities have started taking action against “sexting.”

In takes a life before change starts its course.

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy said of teen’s polled, 39% received and 49% sent sexting messages.
