According to reports, Wayne was originally charged with 2 count of criminal possession of a weapon and 1 count of criminal possession of a loaded weapon. Reports also say that had Wayne decided he was going to try to fight the charges to avoid going to jail, he could have potentially landed himself 3 ½ years to 15 years in jail.

But the Grammy-winning rapper pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession in New York City on Thursday, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence instead. The charges stem from a gun NYPD officials say was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007. His bus were searched after a concert in New York City. While searching the bus, police found Lil’ Wayne and another guy smoking pot. They also found a loaded .40 caliber gun on Lil’ Wayne’s person.

Wayne previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges against him. The news comes as the “Lollipop” hitmaker prepares to welcome a son with R&B star Nivea — his third child born in the past year!

Wayne, 27, is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case. He remains free on bail while awaiting his February sentencing. The somber star did not speak as he left court.
